About Us Meet our Members, our Director, and our Executive Members!
Our Members
Our current membership consists of approximately 25 people. We represent a broad spectrum of backgrounds including nurses, school teachers, scientists, engineers, housewives, students and senior citizens. Members have a wide range of musical ability, some boast an extensive musical background, many have picked up their instrument after several decades absence, and some have joined SFCB while learning a new instrument.
Musical Director - Ryan Rutley
With equal passions for conducting, teaching and performing music, Educator and Trombonist Ryan Rutley excels in both arenas. Ryan is especially dedicated to sharing his knowledge and passion for music with his students, as he hopes to inspire the next generation of budding musicians. Ryan, coming from a family of musicians and educators, relishes his time spent working with students of a variety of different ages, from Kindergarten students to adults conducting and teaching a variety of different music genres including: Jazz, Symphonic band, Jazz Choir, Concert Choir, and Guitar/ukulele.
After a successful two years of playing with the Yamaha Canadian National under 21 Jazz Ensemble studying music for a lifetime has been Ryan's commitment to himself. During his time at Kwantlen, UBC, and SFU he was able to fall into a leadership role where he developed his knowledge, passion and commitment for music; studying Performance and Conducting. Ryan is currently in his Fourth year as musical director at Earl Marriott Secondary School as well as his 2nd Season as the Director of the South Fraser Community Band.
